Tuere Nicole Lawton’s work explores the nuanced dichotomy of Black girlhood, tracing its evolving legacy across generations, bodies, and landscapes. Her compelling figures—exclusively Black and female—are captured in stages of growth, blooming, and becoming. Lawton shares, “my work—my garden, so to speak—becomes a way to process the shared experiences passed down through generations of my family.” Through her paintings that merge personal history with cultural narrative, Lawton invites viewers into a world where memory, identity, and resilience take root and flourish.
