Amehlica Part III: Divinity (2025)
Amehlica is a fictional nation created by multi-disciplinary artist Amanda Mehl. It began as a conceptual film for her fashion brand Amehl, titled "There is no “I” in Team”, where she plays every character competing in a national sporting championship. This role-play evolved into a fully realized world—one that serves as both a satire and a reflection of societal structures.
Through her exhibitions in 2022 and 2023, Mehl had interrogated Amehlica’s political and athletic institutions, exposing tensions and absurdities within systems of governance and competition. Through a blend of humor, performance, and world-building, Mehl continues to blur the boundaries between fiction and reality, offering a thought-provoking critique of the forces that define culture.
In this third act, Divinity, her focus shifts to religion, expanding the nation’s mythology and exploring how belief systems shape collective identity. She introduces Techneon, Amehlica’s belief system. Drawing inspiration from the visual storytelling of churches, her narrative unfolds as a three-part sci-fi saga spanning Mesoamehlica, the Industrial Revolution, and a dystopian 2065—where Trumpelona rules as a fascist dictator. As the narrative parallels real-world histories and futures, its unfolding feels eerily prescient.
